Congratulations Paint Penrith REaD and Paint the Blue REaD

The 2016 ZEST Awards saw Paint Penrith REaD’s community champion, Graham Fitzpatrick, and Paint the Blue REaD’s 2015 REaDing Week, nominated for awards. Although they were not winners this year, Rooby Roo, the mascot from Penrith, still managed to steal the show!

Congratulations, Graham, for the amazing work you do for Paint Penrith REaD, promoting Rooby and her message in Penrith through Vintage FM, raising funds, holding business events and including Rooby in just about everything you do. And congratulations to the Blue Mountains team, led by Judith Hawkes from MOCS, for staging a 2015 Reading Week, delivering 15 events in 8 villages , coordinating 37 agencies and businesses to reach nearly 300 children.

At the Mayoral Breakfast community leaders donated their favourite children’s books.

At the Children’s Launch, local children enthusiastically created leaves to add to a tree, so that it would grow strong and inviting for their mascot to live in.

Lady Cosgrove becomes Patron of Paint the Town REaD

Paint the Town REaD is delighted to announce that Lady Cosgrove has become its Patron.

Lady Cosgrove, wife of His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), invited Rhonda Brain OAM, Chair of the PTTR Board, and Barbie Bates, its Executive Director, to afternoon tea at Government House in Canberra, to celebrate the new partnership.

‘We were thrilled to meet Lady Cosgrove, and to learn that she has such a strong commitment to giving Australia’s children the best start in life,’ said Rhonda Brain after the meeting.

‘We talked about the importance of reading, talking, singing with our babies from birth, and shared photos of the little ones in our lives. We’re looking forward to seeing more photos of Grandma and Grandpa Cosgrove reading with their grandson.’

With the spread of PTTR across five States, and Lady Cosgrove’s commitment to family and children, PTTR considers her an ideal national Patron.

Paint Canterbury REaD

Congratulations to Paint Canterbury REaD in Sydney on the safe arrival of their reading egg.

We’re looking forward to finding out the mascot’s name in the New Year, once the children of Canterbury have done their job of reading and singing with the egg to make it grow!

Canterbury Mayor Brian Robson, and CEO of Canterbury leagues Club, Dave Brace and Kindergarten students from Belmore Sth Public School welcome the egg's arrival.

The Eagle has landed!

Kora the Sea Eagle mascot for Paint the Lake REaD hatched last weekend. The children of Lake Macquarie were there to greet her, when the local water police brought her by boat to the jetty.

Jodie Harrison, Mayor of Lake Macquarie, and Auntie Zelma Moran reveal Kora’s name.

Earlier she had been named by the Mayor, Jodie Harrison, and Auntie Zelma Moran. And so was launched the Paint the Town REaD’s first joint Aboriginal and mainstream community from the very beginning.

Kora means ‘companion’ in the local Awabakal language. What better name to give the mascot, who will be the reading companion for Lake Macquarie’s children?

The Sea Eagle is also the totem for the Awabakal people.
